Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Dust: (NIOSH 582)

This course covers all relevant details in the NIOSH 7400 Method including QA/QC procedures. Students can expect thorough coverage of the following topics: microscope alignment, calibration and use; phase contrast microscopy; all relevant NIOSH protocols; asbestos terminology; pump calibration; field sampling heuristics techniques; the AIHA PAT and AAR programs; and associated QA/QC procedures, statistics and sampling-related mathematics. Students must pass the written final exam and complete in-class practical projects and quizzes. Proficiency in equipment calibration and use, as well as in microscope alignment, calibration and use, must also be demonstrated.
